BT and InLinkUK have announced the deployment of the 100th unit in their joint ‘InLinkUK from BT’ free WiFi roll-out.

The most recent device - which takes the form of a large pillar positioned on the pavement - is in Wandsworth. Previous deployments have included several other London boroughs, as well as cities such as Leeds.

According to BT, the service has attracted around 49,000 subscribers so far who have “used enough data to download more than seven million songs, or the equivalent of listening to 39 years of music.”

Speaking of the roll-out, Neil Scoresby, BT’s general manager for payphones and InLink, said: “We’re really excited by InLinkUK from BT and the popularity of its services, such as free ultrafast Wi-Fi and free calls. We’re in discussion with many local councils about installing more InLinks and we’re looking forward to rolling out to more London boroughs and major cities across the UK.”

Discussing the solution’s ability to display community information via a large onboard screen, general manager of InLinkUK Matt Bird said: “We have been working on providing hundreds of hours of content.
