Real Wireless, an advisor in wireless technology, strategy and regulation worldwide, has become a member of the cross rail-industry Future Communications & Positioning System Advisory Group (FC&PS AG), a sub-group of the Vehicle/Train Control and Communications System Interface Committee.
As part of the FC&PS AG, Real Wireless plans to contribute its expertise on digital wireless technology across many industries to support the growth of the British rail industry. FC&PS AG aims to assist planning processes and inform policy makers and funders about the potential benefits of new communications and positioning technologies. This will provide suppliers with guidance on the future technical direction of the industry as part of the Rail Technical Strategy Vision 2012, established by the Technical Strategy Leadership Group representing all stakeholders in the rail industry.
The first meeting with Real Wireless on May 19 will bring together FC&PS AG members including train operators, Network Rail, the Department for Transport, Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB), Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) and representatives from the wider communications industry. John Okas, an associate at Real Wireless, believes the organisation has something to offer the industry due to publicly acknowledged wireless related issues facing Network Rail and the TOCS. RSSB and Future Rail have publicly stated that they are trying to solve this situation.
