Smukfest turns up the volume with Hytera

Smukfest, a large music festival in Denmark, uses Hytera DMR radios and repeaters to ensure that its staff can easily communicate with each other and by doing so, help safeguard the 50,000 visitors it receives every year

Every August, among the beech trees of Skanderborg you’ll find music lovers flocking to Denmark’s answer to Glastonbury.

From its humble beginning back in 1980 with just seven bands and 600 spectators, Smukfest now draws a crowd of more than 50,000 and has featured headline acts from the likes of Prince and Eric Clapton.

The vast scale of the festival site and the sheer number of visitors demands effective communication between organisers, security personnel, production teams and operational staff to ensure the smooth running of the festival and to guarantee the health and safety of staff and music lovers alike.

So how do you keep the music playing and the punters safe when you’re on an enormous site, surrounded by trees, 50,000 people and music reaching levels of more than 110 decibels?

Christened as “Denmark’s Most Beautiful Festival”, Smukfest takes place in a Beech Forest, which as magical as it might be, presents a topographically challenging environment when it comes to communication.
