StaySafe lone worker system used by Kingswood Air Conditioning

The StaySafe app and cloud-based monitoring service will be used by UK-based company Kingswood Air Conditioning to improve the safety of lone working engineers servicing and installing air conditioning equipment.

The service will allow employers to monitor the location and safety status of lone workers, which are able to send an alert if they need assistance. Kingswood is also operating an out of hour call service. The app works on the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry devices used by employees.

The app software features include a panic button, working session expiry and low battery warnings with the ability to connect by GPS and other satellite location services to send man-down and duress alerts.

The previous procedures followed by the company’s employees were to call into the office on an hourly basis to confirm they were safe. This was not sufficient as Kingswood had a problem with poor phone signal and employees not consistently following procedures. Its services mean that engineers are often working on sites alone, at height and with heavy equipment.

“The StaySafe app provides peace of mind that our employees are safe while they work alone,” said James Oliver, a company director at Kingswood. “The man-down feature as well as location monitoring were particularly important to us when selecting a solution and StaySafe ticked all the boxes. The solution overcomes many of the issues we faced before such as out of hours monitoring and lack of phone signal at some of our sites. We now feel confident that we are meeting our duty of care to our lone working employees around the clock”.
