Radio Society of Great Britain appoints Steve Thomas as general manager

Steve Thomas (call sign M1ACB) has been appointed as GM of the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB), which represents the interests of 60,000 radio amateurs to Ofcom.

Thomas has replaced Graham Coomber, G0NBI, following Coomber’s announcement in January that he was to retire from his role. Thomas joins the RSGB from a career in the IT and telecoms industry, which included senior roles in management, leadership and strategy in BT over 19 years. He has also served as director of the Network Test Automation Forum, an international standards organisation, and brings experience in contract, project and financial management from this role.

Thomas explained that he will be working with the RSGB board to review the Society’s five-year rolling strategy of “important elements for the board and society to pursue”. This is to ensure that the RSGB works effectively to increase awareness and understanding of amateur radio, wireless science and its technologies, and also make the hobby accessible to everyone.

“The results of that are just in and being analysed,” said Thomas. “We will use that to drive the strategy for the society.”
