Wireless solution manufacturer Rohill has participated in an exercise preparing for a major bio-terrorist attack
The company provided its LTEtraNode platform, allowing users simultaneous access to both narrowband (TETRA) and broadband (VoLTE, MCPTT) services, with SES satellite used as a backbone.
The move was part of an attempt to incorporate telecommunication and crisis management assets into the European Space Agency’s B-LiFE (Biological Light Fieldable laboratory for Emergencies) project.
Speaking of the company’s contribution to the exercise, Lenard Molhoek, product manager at Rohill, said: “We are very proud to contribute to the B-LiFE project as part of a highly specialised and experienced consortium.
“Delivering our TETRA-LTE solution to B-LiFE will be vital to ensure communication, and an optimal information exchange between users and stakeholders.”
According to the ESA the objective of B-LiFE is “to bring a diagnostic capability as close as possible to the crisis area. It is adding to [its current] transportable bio-laboratory, a set of space technologies and functions including satellite telecommunications and GNSS data.”
B-LiFE was successfully deployed in Guinea between 2014-2015 to combat the Ebola virus. The most recent exercise, took place in Belgium earlier in June.
