Truespeed takes on BT exec to expand full-fibre rollout

Aviva Investors-backed full-fibre broadband firm Truespeed has announced the appointment of the former chief customer officer of BT, Lisa Harrington, as a non-executive director.

Based in Bath, Truespeed were founded in 2014 and have set a goal of rolling out full-fibre broadband to hard to reach homes and businesses connecting direct to premises.across the South West of England.

To support this goal, they have secured two rounds of funding totalling £175m from Aviva Investors, the global asset management business of the insurance giant, with the most recent investment coming this January.

Commenting on her appointment, Harrington said: “I was drawn to Truespeed’s mission of ensuring whole communities can benefit from ultrafast broadband, and I am pleased to have joined the energetic and ambitious company at such a pivotal time having recently passed 50,000 premises. It’s great to be part of a regional, purpose-led business and I look forward to enabling its accelerated growth in the future.”

Harrington will bring more than 25 years of experience to her role at Truespeed including a decade at BT and a stint as interim managing director at full-fibre broadband provider Hyperoptic.

Chief executive of Truespeed James Lowther added: “Lisa is a great addition to the Truespeed board, whose knowledge and expertise will prove indispensable as we rapidly expand our network and continue to evolve and grow as a company.
