Ericsson launches remote 5G-office cloud for businesses

Telecoms giant Ericsson has unveiled plans to launch a remote working cloud service to support employees of small businesses in North America.

The 5G-ready subscription service will allow businesses to grant access to licensed apps, cloud storage and security tools to “selected employees'' working from home.

Ericsson’s head of business area technologies Asa Tamsons said the service, which will cost businesses $100 per month per employee, was created as a result of the challenges posed to telecoms and cloud support staff by the rise in home working numbers during the coronavirus pandemic.

The ‘Ericsson Wireless Office’ will remove the need for an IT technician to create a secure cloud or 5G network for home-based staff. Ericsson estimates that 40% of the workforce in North America are currently working from home in some capacity.

The Swedish company has partnered with technology services distributor Telarus to sell subscriptions for its new platform.

Dan Foster, head of global sales at Ericsson Wireless Office, said: "The pandemic has changed the way we work and Ericsson Wireless Office addresses this transformation by delivering a 5G-ready office solution covering the applications, cloud, and communication needs for enterprises in one single solution regardless of their location or device, with no IT expertise required.”
