Mobile network operator Three UK has released figures indicating that its 5G network is now accessible to 193 towns and 1,250 5G sites in the UK.

New locations on its network include Brentwood, Chorley, and Gateshead. The operator has increased its 5G 'footprint' from 1,000 sites at the end of last year and said it will add "hundreds more" in 2021 as part of a five-year programme to "deliver the UK’s fastest 5G network".

Speaking of the current demand for broadband, Three UK COO Susan Buttsworth said: “We have made solid progress at the start of 2021 and are meeting our goal to deliver better connectivity, every day, for every customer.

“Our 5G rollout has made excellent progress with 1250 sites across 193 towns and cities and we’ve made strong improvements to boost the 4G experience for our customers, which has never been more vital with virtual working and homeschooling.”

The network added that its 4G connectivity has received a boost with the addition of 20MHz of 1400MHz spectrum added to 1,500 sites in Three UK’s portfolio.

In other Three-related broadband coverage news, the company has committed to building 74 new sites as part of the first stage of the government-backed Shared Rural Network initiative. Three is working in partnership with 02 and Vodafone to deliver a total of 222 new 4G mobile masts in UK rural areas.
