Motorola Solutions to acquire Kodiak Networks

Motorola Solutions has entered an agreement to acquire Kodiak Networks, a company providing broadband push-to-talk for commercial customers.

The acquisition adds a carrier-integrated PTT-over-cellular solution to Motorola Solutions’ existing WAVE PTT portfolio. Kodiak also offers a cloud-based PTT solution and management platform, delivering its service over 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, and 3G.

Speaking of the deal, Motorola Solutions’ executive vice president, products and services, Bruce Brda said: “We expect the Kodiak acquisition to strengthen our ability to provide solutions to mobile network operators, especially for commercial markets.

“Kodiak has a significant presence with mobile network operators and an established reputation for providing carrier-integrated solutions that complement Motorola Solutions’ software and carrier capabilities.”

Motorola’s WAVE product is designed to connect disparate networks with each other, enabling communication between smartphones, radios and computers via wireless or wireline broadband.

According to the company, the acquisition agreement is subject to “customary closing conditions” and is expected to be completed later this year. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
