Europe’s leading next-generation multifunctional sports, business and entertainment venue has been rebranded as the Nokia Arena as part of a landmark rights partnership.

The owners of the 15,000 capacity Tampere Deck Arena have agreed a naming rights partnership that could span 10 years as part of a new deal with the Finnish telecoms giant.

Nokia has pledged to invest “significantly” in technology upgrades at the arena ahead of opening in December 2021. The new Nokia Arena is expected to host more than a million visitors annually and will act as the main venue for the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championships

Alongside hosting a custom Nokia 5G network, the Nokia Arena’s digital screens will encompass 1.2 billion pixels to create what the company claims will be among the most “highly immersive customer experience” for all venues.

Tommi Uitto, president of mobile networks at Nokia, said: “Customer experience both in physical and virtual events is changing radically with the introduction of new digital platforms and technologies.

“Nokia Arena is not only a state-of-the-art venue for sport, music and business events, but also a Finnish landmark. Nokia was founded in Tampere 156 years ago and today Finland continues to be one of Nokia’s key R&D centers in 5G and beyond. This partnership further reinforces our commitment to Finland, and we look forward to seeing Nokia Arena as a pioneer in world-class stadium experience.”
