TÜV SÜD launches UK-based NB-IoT testing service

TÜV SÜD has launched a Narrowband-IoT (NB-IoT) test and certification service, which is based in a laboratory in the UK.

The new service performs regulatory testing against international and country-specific mandatory requirements. TÜV SÜD can also advise if a device chipset or network technology will work in in the manufacturer’s intended market, as technology acceptance is not standardised and differs in each region.

TÜV SÜD can also perform testing for LTE-M device chipsets. According to the GSMA’s mobile IoT deployment map, NB-IoT’s international rollout is more advanced than that of LTE-M, especially in Europe and China.

Phil Evans, business line manager for telecoms at TÜV SÜD, said: “In the IoT connected world, multiple devices are continually talking to each other. The question for technology developers is how to meet regulatory requirements and effectively deal with congestion on the radio spectrum to deliver streamlined communications. TÜV SÜD’s dedicated global market access team can advise on the IoT test requirements at a global level.”
