Ofcom appoints new spectrum lead

Communications regulator Ofcom has hired former TPG Telecom group executive Dan Lloyd to manage what it described as “the lifeblood of the UK’s wireless industry”.

Lloyd will bring more than two decades experience from across 10 countries when he takes up his new role as director of Ofcom’s Spectrum Group in May.

In his new position, Lloyd will be tasked with ensuring the efficient use of the UK’s wireless spectrum including overseeing the sale or release of spectrum for new services such as 5G mobile and climate mapping.

Lloyd will join from TPG Telecom in Australia, where he led both the wholesale team and the spectrum strategy group covering brands including TPG, Vodafone and Lebara. Before moving to Australia, he held senior management positions with Vodafone Group in the UK and Vodafone India.

Commenting on his appointment, Lloyd said: “It is truly a privilege to be joining Ofcom. The spectrum group has a critical role in managing exponentially increasing demand for innovative wireless services. The breadth and depth of expertise in Ofcom’s spectrum group and senior management team is simply world-class, so it is a great pleasure to be joining.
