UK mobile phone network operators have welcomed the publication of a report from the independent Advisory Group on Non Ionising Radiation (AGNIR). AGNIR has found no convincing evidence of a health risk to the public from mobile phone technology.

Belgian TETRA network to get major upgrade
The EADS-Belgacom consortium has signed a contract for the replacement of one of the major building blocks of the Belgian radio communications network, Astrid. The nationwide TETRA network currently serves about 75,000 public safety and security users.

Report backs case for UK smart grid
The development of a smart grid in the UK could give the economy a £13 billion boost and create 10,000 new jobs. These are the findings of a report from Ernst and Young, prepared for SmartGrid GB, which assessed the potential benefits to the British economy of the deployment of a smart grid.

UK's first municipal LTE system
Swindon is to be the first local authority in the UK to have a borough-wide 4G-LTE network. UK Broadband (UKB), which deployed a system in London in February, has begun a project in partnership with Capita, Swindon Borough Council's IT service provider, to roll out a hybrid microwave/4G LTE network across the borough.

Sigma Wireless and Airwave announce Tetra messaging agreement
Sigma Wireless Communications has announced the completion of a five-year framework and supply agreement with Airwave for their ComAlerter Tetra Messaging System. The agreement will see the ComAlerter, a two-way messaging device with GPS functionality, deployed by emergency services throughout Great Britain using the Airwave network.

All schools in Northern Ireland to get Wi-Fi connectivity
Classroom 2000 (C2k), Northern Ireland's IT procurement body for education, has announced all schools will now have access to wireless services. Northgate Managed Services has been appointed to provide W-Fi connectivity to over 350,000 teachers and pupils.
